Tour Location
Discover the raw beauty of Ladakh, a high altitude Himalayan destination known for dramatic mountain landscapes, ancient monasteries, and unique border villages. This journey covers Leh, the scenic Nubra Valley, and the culturally rich village of Turtuk, offering a perfect blend of nature, culture, and offbeat exploration without visiting Pangong Lake.
Leh
Leh is the heart of Ladakh and the starting point for all major journeys in the region. Located at an altitude of around 11,500 ft, Leh is known for its monasteries, mountain views, local markets, and strong Tibetan Buddhist influence. The town also plays a crucial role in acclimatization before traveling to higher altitude areas. Key attractions include Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace, and historic monasteries that reflect Ladakh’s spiritual heritage.Nubra Valley
Nubra Valley lies north of Leh and is reached via the iconic Khardung La, one of the highest motorable roads in the world. The valley is famous for its contrasting landscapes of sand dunes, rivers, green villages, and snow covered peaks. Highlights of Nubra Valley include Diskit Monastery, scenic villages like Hunder, and the rare double hump Bactrian camels that roam the cold desert sand dunes.Turtuk
Turtuk is one of the most unique villages in Ladakh and a cultural highlight of this tour. Located close to the Indo Pakistan border, Turtuk was part of Baltistan until 1971 and still preserves its Balti culture, language, and traditions. The village is known for its apricot orchards, traditional stone houses, warm locals, and scenic walking trails. Visiting Turtuk offers travelers a rare opportunity to experience a side of Ladakh that feels untouched by mass tourism.Monasteries & Cultural Sites
This itinerary also covers some of Ladakh’s most important spiritual landmarks:- Diskit Monastery – offering panoramic views of Nubra Valley
- Hemis Monastery – one of the largest and wealthiest monasteries in Ladakh
- Thiksey Monastery – often compared to the Potala Palace
- Shey Palace – the former summer capital of Ladakh
